About Me Before
Sandi Pratt I spent more than half my life as a legal assistant living in putty-colored cubes, sitting behind desks and hiding in break rooms. The profession’s regular hours and benefits worked well for me when raising my 2-year old son as a single mom for the next 20 years. Paying the bills, making ends meet and seeing no light at the end of the tunnel occupied me 24/7. The last thing I had on my mind back in those days was getting a massage, let alone giving one. One day while avoiding my attorneys, a good friend of mine asked if I’d stop by her massage school during my lunch hour so she could practice her student massage on me. She’d only been a student for 3 months, so I was surprised she was already working on people. But the school was located right down the street from where I worked and, what the heck, why not, my attorneys probably wouldn’t be there. What an incredible massage she gave me! And she was only a student – I just couldn’t believe it. Ahhhh, absolute bliss. We talked about the school and massage therapy as a profession. Who wouldn’t want to work from a lovely candle-lit room with beautiful background music making others happy and actually get paid to do it -- something you’d do for free! The school had a night schedule and the monthly tuition wasn’t as horrible as I’d assumed it would be. Much to my amazement, my newly-wed husband encouraged me to at least give it a try. I enrolled as the oldest student in my class (by 25+ years) and in no time flat I went from being a desperate mediocre-at-best legal assistant to a very happy and successful massage therapist, the best job in the whole world as far as I’m concerned. It’s a very mutual experience, giving and receiving a massage. My instructor told us on our first day of class that we wouldn’t recognize ourselves by the end of the course, and she was right. I can barely remember myself as a legal assistant.

Before moving to Prescott, I’d made arrangements to work at the Prescott Resort and remained working as a massage therapist in its Health Club for about 2.5 years. However, the prospect of owning my own business and working from home became irresistible and I’ve never regretted taking the necessary steps to create “Absolutely Wonderful Massage by Sandi.” I have the privilege of being the sole massage therapist at Prescott’s Golf & Country Club, too. The club is beautiful and it’s an honor to work there. Remember what I said about the candle-lit room? You should see the gorgeous room I get to work from at Prescott Lakes. And finally, I decided to work a couple afternoons a week for HealthSource because I wanted to learn more about the medical side of massage. Andy Nelson and my co-workers are exceptionally gifted healers and have taught me much more than any school or course could have. Not to mention they’re all positive, health-minded and hilarious to work with. Andy has wonderful patients and I’m fortunate to be able to lend a hand there. It’s very much like being a family member working for HealthSource.
